The Kurt Files has been compiled to provide extensive background on the figure skater known as Kurt Browning, aka "The Kid from Caroline", aka "Skate God Jr.," as well as to track his current skating activities and public appearances. The skater has been known to take on various guises, from clown to flamenco dancer to cowboy, but can be recognized by his fast feet and personal charisma. It's Kurt Browning's 20th year with the Canadian Stars on Ice tour. To celebrate this milestone, the Kurt Files has put together a special project, dedicated to looking back on Kurt's 20 years with Stars on Ice. Posting one page per day of the 2010 tour, the retrospective covers all of Kurt's twenty years on tour, with info, photos, video downloads, memories, and stories from both fans and those who have worked with Kurt on Stars on Ice over the years. Take a walk down memory lane!

Tickets for Shall We Dance on Ice, taking place Sep. 22, 2010 in Hamilton, ON, are on sale now. Kurt will be co-hosting with Shae-Lynn Bourne, and the two are scheduled to do a number together for the show.

  • Hockey player Kelly Chase is blogging about his experience on Battle of the Blades this season, and he mentions Kurt in his rather amusing Blog #2: Chaser Gets Punk'd entry.

  • since 7/24/10:

    • Evidently, Kurt Browning choreographed Takahiko Kozuka's new exhibition program to Safety Dance and Hello Goodbye from Glee.

    • Kurt Browning will be appearing at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex grand opening celebration in Oakville, ON, taking part in the official opening ceremonies Sep. 18 at 12:30PM. For more information, visit the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex website.

    • There are some wonderful photos of Kurt Browning, spanning from 1985 through 1994, on this great photography site IMAGE Communications, available to look at or purchase.     • Kurt is a judge for the Young Artists Showcase, a competition designed to "foster and encourage young ice skating choreographers by giving them experience through a series of challenges and guidance from an expert panel of Artists, Skaters, and Choreographers." He evaluated and scored the programs submitted for the first challenge, "Carving Space," and his "reviews" of each program can be seen on YouTube in the Grassroots to Champions video channel.

    • It's Kurt's 44th birthday today! Happy Birthday Kurt!

    • Kurt was interviewed on CHML900's morning show about the Pedigree Pet Adoption program this morning. You can listen live or download the mp3 here. Thanks, Earene!

    • Drop by the Pedigree Booth at Woofstock on Saturday, June 12, say hi to Kurt, and support a great cause! Bring your dog for lots of doggy treats and fun. Kurt will be at the booth, which is located at the corner of Front & Market St in Toronto, from 2-4PM, and then at the Pedigree 3D display from 4-5PM.

  • since 6/2/10:

    • Kurt will be at the Pedigree Adoption Drive Tweet Up at Woofstock in Toronto at Union Station (Front & Bay SW corner) on June 12. According to the host, @ilovecpstyle, Kurt will be there around 4, though the event runs between 9 and 7.

    • The video of Kurt Browning and Patrick Chan's 1/2 hour live chat can be watched here. Be prepared for a lot of goofy laughs and some serious answers, including props to Todd Eldredge, Midori Ito, Josef Sabovcik, and Brian Boitano.

    • CBC held its fall launch recently, promoting its fall show schedule, including season 2 of Battle of the Blades. Kurt was there, along with Shae-Lynn Bourne, Christine Hough-Sweeney, Annabelle Langlois, and Russ Courtnall. All the information I'm accumulating about the show, including links to articles, can be found on the Battle of the Blades 2010 page.

  • since 5/26/10:

    • Kurt Browning and Patrick Chan will be doing a live video chat this Friday, May 28 at 3PM ET. Fans can submit questions in advance by commenting on this blog post or can ask them live on Friday at www.patrickchan.ca/stream.

    • Tickets for Shall We Dance on Ice, a show featuring ice dancers and Broadway dancers, co-hosted by Kurt Browning and Shae-Lynn Bourne, and taking place Sep. 22, 2010 in Hamilton, ON, are on sale now. Visit the above link for more information.

    • I've finally gotten my photos from Thin Ice up on the Photo Evidence page, from three of the rehearsals and both televised shows. There are photos of Kurt in practically every sub-page, since he talked to the skaters after each skate, even though he's not labeled in them. Enjoy!

    • Kurt Browning co-hosted CTS TV's Real Live on Monday, Mar. 1, appearing in fairly lengthy segments scattered throughout the entire show. He talked about the Olympics, Stars on Ice, his view on the quad's base value, and a whole lot more, as well as showing the host a few tricks on the ice. You can watch the entire episode on CTS TV's online video player.

    • Kurt Browning will be skating to That's Entertainment and his hockey skate number from Battle of the Blades, Luck Be a Lady, on the Canadian Stars on Ice tour this year.

    • Along with his TV appearances, Kurt also put in a tongue-in-cheek appearance in a "Survivormantracker" video on YouTube, along with his trusty survival lamp.

    • Kurt Browning is skating to Anastacia's Paid My Dues and Brickhouse in the Art on Ice tour Mar. 4-10 in Switzerland. The show will be aired on SF2 on April 5 at 6:30PM.

    • Kurt Browning and the rest of the cast of Canadian Stars on Ice will join Japanese skaters including Mao Asada, Miki Ando, Akiko Suzuki, Daisuke Takahashi, Nobunari Oda, and Takahiko Kozuka for the Stars on Ice Japan tour, coming to Tokyo and Osaka in April, 2010.     • Another morning, another radio interview. Kurt was interviewed on 98.1 CHFI this morning. The interview will be re-aired during the Weekend Edition morning show tomorrow (2/6) at around 9:10AM, and you can listen live, or just listen to the interview online.

    • On Tuesday, Kurt Browning was interviewed on the B-Mac & Rintoul Show on Team 1040 Sports Radio in Vancouver. It was a fairly lengthy interview - almost 14 minutes long - and very candid, covering Kurt's thoughts on the Olympics, Canadians, his own experiences, and the challenges of competing in figure skating in general. Team 1040 makes its shows available via podcast - Kurt's interview is about 39 minutes into hour 1 of the Jan. 19 show - or you can download just the Kurt interview here (please right click and save to your own computer, don't play it off my site).

    • Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon, Joannie Rochette, and Jeff Buttle have been added to the cast of Canadian Stars on Ice.
