A record five world champion figure skating acts will take to the ice at the new Memorial Centre for a special Christmas show Dec. 19.

Kurt Browning, Brian Orser and Donald Jackson will perform at Celebration On Ice along with figure skating pairs Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler and Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz.

"It's a show that's been going on in Newmarket for three years," says Jim McCullough , Celebration On Ice marketing director.

"It's sold out every time it's played."

Peterborough This Week is the event's print media sponsor.

The skating extravaganza, hosted by three-time Canadian ladies champion Josee Chouinard, is coming to Peterborough for the first time this year with tickets from $28 to $50 going on sale today (Wednesday).

"You'll never find a cast like this anywhere for this price," says Mr. McCullough of the show, which will also feature six-time Canadian ladies champion Jennifer Robinson .

"It's an amazing opportunity to see the best in the world."

He adds that Peterborough has always been a good sports town with a high interest in skating.

The new Memorial Centre also provides a terrific venue for the upcoming ice show.

"We're the first skating show at the (new) Memorial Centre," says Mr. McCullough, adding he wants the show to become an annual event for the next few years.

The event's organizers are asking the public to bring non-perishable food items to the show, which will be donated to the Kawartha Food Share.

Part of the proceeds from ticket sales will also go towards the non-profit food bank.
