Date: July 25, 2005

The wide-open spaces of Alberta have produced some of the finest and best-known music and performing artists this country has to offer. The stages they perform on, and the large supportive audiences that come to see them, speak volumes about the province. Explore the culture and meet the people who have left an indelible mark and shaped the province in ALBERTA BOUND: A Centennial Celebration, airing on CBC Television, Thursday, Aug. 25, from 8 to 10 p.m.

Four-time World and Canadian Champion skater Kurt Browning comes home for Alberta's centennial and enjoys a musical and cultural tour of his home province. He travels the highways and the byways, exploring the rich harvest and diverse talent that has been inspired by the big sky and the magnificent mountain ranges. Along the way, he meets many of the province's great musicians who have taken their talents to the world stage.

From Ian Tyson, in the foothills of the Rockies, to Nickelback in Hanna, to kd lang of Consort, and Terri Clark in Medicine Hat, Browning encourages the performers to share their experiences and special relationship with the province.

Also included in the centennial special are Albertans: country artist Paul Brandt; nouveau flamenco guitarist Oscar Lopez; Cajun singer Crystal Plamondon, world renowned jazz great PJ Perry; East Indian hip hop star Raghav Mathur; traditional cowboy musician Corb Lund; hoop dance champion Alex Wells, talented songwriter and up-and-coming singer Karla Anderson; mountain man and conservationist Sid Marty, who also happens to be a songwriter; and one of Alberta's favourites, Jann Arden.

ALBERTA BOUND: A Centennial Celebration is written and directed by Tom Radford and produced by Jack Stuart. Executive producers for White Iron Pictures Inc. are Lance Mueller and Jean Merriman, and for CBC Television, Fred Nicolaidis. The program is produced by 1137266 Alberta Inc. for White Iron Pictures Inc. in association with CBC Television.
