On Saturday (July 30) Canadian figure skater Kurt Browning and his family stopped adopted a dog from the Peterborough Humane Society

(PETERBOROUGH) Staff at the Peterborough Humane Society were star struck when three-time Olympic figure skater Kurt Browning came into the shelter over the weekend to adopt a new pet.

"They [staff] were thrilled, absolutely thrilled," says Wendy Ryan, executive director of the Peterborough Humane Society.

Ms Ryan says Mr. Browning, his wife Sonia Rodriguez, principal dancer in the National Ballet of Canada, and their children came into the shelter on Saturday (July 30) looking for a new friend. Ms Ryan wasn't working the day the Brownings came in, but she spoke to Ms Rodriguez on Tuesday (Aug. 1) to get all the details.

"They had lost their dog about a year and a half ago. They had been looking for a dog for the last few months and saw this dog on our website," Ms Ryan explains.

The family left happy with a new forever friend, a one-year-old grey and beige Lhasa Apso they named Wickett.

Ms Ryan, who was a figure skater her whole life, was disappointed she wasn't working the day Mr. Browning came in.

Mr. Browning, born in Alberta but now living in Toronto, is a four-time World Champion, four-time Canadian champion and three-time Olympian. He was also the spokesperson for the Pedigree Pet Adoption Campaign.

"I would have loved to have met both him and his wife," Ms Ryan says.
