Ice Wars 2002 Spoilers

Spoilers are courtesy Nancy, who called me from the competition. Thanks so much Nancy! =)

11/15 - adding a few spoilers here and there from other reviews:

Kurt skated to the song from the end of Gotta Skate ("It's So Good To Be Alive") in a more expanded form, wearing the costume from Guitar. Unfortunately, it seems like he was really tired for this event and his jumps weren't entirely on. He did 3-sal, a couple 2-axels, apparently a 3-2 combo...some "unique" footwork...he was scored in the 9.7 range...

For his second program, he did the old version of Crash from CSOI, in the same costume as CSOI (red pants, yellow tank top, purple outer shirt). Apparently they had prerecorded him backstage and before the program, he was mimicking himself on the screen and joking around and entertaining the audience. Nancy said that his jumps were pretty wonky in this program. Apparently he did the roll on the ice and then up into a jump twice, and instead of doing a bunch of those foot slides at the end, he only did 1 or 2, some footwork, and then just stopped...he got 9.8's and 9.9's for this program...

Kurt was matched up against Scott. Scott skated to Figaro for his first number, and the golf number for the second one and got 10's.

Apparently one of the standout performances of the evening was Ilia, who landed 3-axel, 3-lutz, combos... he did a "beautiful new classical program" and Rubberband Man. He was matched against Brian B. whose second program was "Hernando's Hideaway" (in pinstriped suit and hat, using a cigar as a prop), and was rather short, but in which he did land a 3-2-2 combo, as well as the tano lutz. (Nancy said he did one in each program). Brian beat Ilia in their matchup.

side note here...Tara may have been matched against Maria and Surya matched against Nicole....I'm trying to verify this now.

Tara and Surya were matched against each other and it sounds like Tara may have reinjured her hip. Nancy said that she did a 2-axel, and then maybe a 3-toe, and when she came down it seemed like she pulled something in her hip - she barely made it through the rest of her program (was grimacing in pain). She said that at the end of the program, Tara grabbed her hip and almost dragged her leg off the ice... in the second program, apparently she fell on a triple, and didn't jump afterwards. Her first program was to "Paint it Black"

Nancy says Surya did really well and her jumps were really on... her first number was a "beautiful ballad" which was slower, more extension, etc, but she only got about 9.6-9.7 while Tara got 9.8-9.9 (go figure). Her second number was to "I Will Survive", in which she did some "tumbling" like cartwheels, etc.

Nicole apparently did quite well, maybe only one fall, while Maria had some good jumps and a good program as well... I'm not actually sure who won this one... Nicole skated to a medley from "Mamma Mia" for her first program. Maria skated to an "Arabian-themed program ... with lots of hand movements" for her second program.

Obviously, the US team won.

Judges Nancy noticed were Kerry Leitch, Lyndon Johnston, Jo Jo Starbuck..she thinks the rest might have been new judges? LVKurt2 on skatingforums.com also remembers Frances Dafoe as a judge.

That's all I've got from Nancy - I have to thank her again for calling me and taking the time to give me all these results =).

Don't forget, Ice Wars airs 11/30 from 8-10PM EST on CBS.
