The 'stars' from Stars on Ice

Source: Bakersfield Californian
Date: January 8, 2004

Produced by Scott Hamilton and directed by Christopher Dean, Stars On Ice promises top-tier skaters backed by a Broadway-caliber show.

Along with Olympic winner Oksana Baiul look out for these skaters gliding by at the Garden tonight:

Kurt Browning

World champ Kurt Browning is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the first athlete ever to successfully compete a quadruple jump in a world competition back in 1988.

One of Canada's most prolific skaters, Browning has earned four World Figure Skating Championships and four Canadian Championships titles.

Alexei Yagudin

2002 Olympic gold medalist; Born in Russia and now living in the U.S., Yagudin is a four-time world champion and three-time European champion.

He made Olympic history when he was the first male skater to ever receive scores of all 5.9s and four perfect 6s for artistry. No other man in Olympic history has ever earned more than one perfect mark.

Jamie Sale and David Pelletier

2002 Olympic pair champions; They're known for their fun, lively brand of skating, but they will also be known as the pair of skaters caught up in a controversial judging scandal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. In the end, the pair got to keep their medal despite some less-than-ethical behavior by a judge.

Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze

2002 Olympic pair champions; These two graceful Russian skaters were thrust into spotlight as well during the voting controversy at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Todd Eldredge

World champion and six-time U.S. national champion, Eldredge also captured the World Championships title in 1996. But it was the year prior that Eldredge achieved notoriety by becoming the only skater to return to the U.S. Championships and win after a three-year absence from the podium.

Yuka Sato

World champion; daughter of a pair of Olympic skaters, Sato came in first place at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1994. Shortly after she went pro and has been skating in competitions and shows ever since.

Jenni Meno and Todd Sand

World silver medalists and three-time U.S. national pair champions; This husband-and-wife team is the most decorated American skating pair in recent history.

Kyoko Ina and John Zimmerman

World bronze medalists and three-time U.S. national pair champions, these two were the first U.S. pair to win a World Figure Skating Championships medal since 1998.
